I just came across this message by Joel Beeke on Richard Sibbes (1577-1635) and "entertaining the Holy Spirit".
By "entertaining the Holy Spirit" Sibbes didn't mean that we should sing or dance for him (though you could :-). Sibbes meant that we should entertain the Spirit in the same way we would entertain a guest who came to stay in our home.
If you are a Christian the Holy Spirit has actually come to make his home within you (Romans 8:9). Knowing that you have this Divine Guest living within you should motivate you to seek daily communion with him and to take care not to grieve him in any way (Ephesians 4:30, I Thessalonians 5:19).
You can check out Beeke's audio or manuscript to learn more.
