True Repentance

Golden calfIn Exodus 32, as Moses comes down from Mount Sinai he finds that Aaron has made a golden calf and that the people are worshiping it.

When confronted, Aaron tries to downplay his sin by blaming the people and then claims that all he did was toss their gold into the fire and out popped the golden calf. Like magic!

But in verse 4 we learned that Aaron "received the gold from their hand and fashioned it with a graving tool and made a golden calf" (vs. 4).

We can know that God has given us true repentance when we stop claiming that our sinful words and actions leapt out of nowhere (vs. 24) and start admitting that we have "fashioned...and made" (vs. 4) them in our hearts.
