Good news fellow Christians, there is no need for you to get all hot and bothered about "Xmas"!
Christ is still very much in Xmas. The "x" is actually an abbreviation for Christ, an abbreviation that we (Christians) started a long time ago. The "x" in Xmas stands for the Greek letter chi which looks like an "x". The chi is the "ch" sound in the Greek form of the word Christ. It's an old way of abbreviating the whole word "Christ".
You can see a chi in the Chi Rho (in this post). The "x" (chi) makes the "ch" sound and what looks like a "p" is a Greek rho which makes an "r" sound. Put together they make the "chr" beginning of the word Christ.
"Xmas" was our idea :-)
